Com o intuito de ressaltar a importância do empoderamento de mulheres negras no contexto social, político e histórico, a Alesp concedeu a Medalha Theodosina Ribeiro a 16 mulheres, na segunda-feira (11/3), no plenário Juscelino Kubitschek. Segundo a deputada Leci Brandão, responsável pela 7ª edição do prêmio, a condecoração relaciona-se a questões voluntárias e ações sociais, marcadas por envolvimento com e ajuda ao próximo.
As homenageadas da noite foram Ana Maria Martins Soares, Beth Beli, Bia Ferreira, Djamilla Ribeiro, Eliana de Lima, Eva Benedita de Andrade, Maria Helena Candida de Moura, Margarida Barreto, Marisa de Sá, Maura Augusta Soares de Oliveira, Neon Cunha, Regina Paula Thomaz, Rosa Maria Virgolina da Silva (Doné Oyassy), Ryane Leão, Sheila Ventura Pereira e o Instituto Preta Pretinha.
"É uma medalha da diversidade, porque você encontra não só mulheres negras, mas mulheres que têm uma história de participação, de coragem, de luta. São tão ou mais importantes do que eu, enquanto parlamentar; são de associações de moradores, operárias de fábricas, médicas, juristas, ativistas, artistas", afirmou Leci Brandão.
Ryane Leão, professora e poeta cuiabana, é fundadora de uma escola focada no ensino de inglês afro centrado para mulheres negras. A jovem frisou a importância e a complexidade do trabalho em comunidades: "Temos muito a fazer, muita história pra ouvir. É uma vivência coletiva, escutando nossas irmãs".
